The Council Corner - Hayle Pump April/May 2012

South Quay Supermarket Application

The Town Council has just received notification that the Secretary of State, after careful consideration, will not be calling in the application for his determination and has decided that the application should be determined at local level. He considers that proposals to build a supermarket on South Quay do not give rise to sufficient conflict with national policies, the value of the World Heritage Site or the vitality or viability of Hayle Town centre.

Forthcoming Calendar Dates

The Annual Elector’s or Town Meeting will be held on Thursday 5 April at 7p.m. at Hayle Community Centre. During this meeting the Mayor presents the Annual Report and it is an opportunity for members of the public to quiz Councillors on any of the Council’s activities. The Annual Council Meeting and Mayor Making Ceremony will take place on Thursday 10th May 2012 at Hayle Day Care Centre. During this meeting awards will be presented to this year’s Citizens and Organisations of the Year.

Hayle Swimming Pool

The future of the Pool is uncertain and the Council is seeking your views about whether or not the residents of Hayle want it to remain open. Initial meetings have taken place and it appears that opinions are much divided; some see it as a financial drain while others see it as a valuable town asset. We are also keen to hear from anyone who wishes to become involved in a fundraising/ events committee or has some practical suggestions to help secure its future.

Please take the time to contact the Town Clerk with your views or join the debate on:
www.facebook.com/HayleSwimmingPool

There is also a meeting on April 4th at 7:30pm at the Hayle Community Centre to discuss this further. Please join us.

Hayle Community Centre

Space is available for regular sessions or one off bookings. Remember that the CAB, Link into Learning and others hold regular sessions and surgeries. There is also currently an entire first floor selfcontained unit available on a long lease suitable as office and or meeting space, ideally for a local, community based organisation. Contact the Town Clerk for details of services and available space.
