ISIS GARDENS!

Network Rail and B&K have between them agreed to pay CC £80k to cover the cost of the above works, so it's firmly down to Cornwall Council and Cormac now!

Crack on Cormac!

Ken Townend
Ken Townend Could give the money to Hayle in Bloom to do it. They do a good job through the town.
Stephen Cornish
Stephen Cornish Hmm. Could get it gold plated at that price! Or maybe just a roof? wink emoticon good news all round.
Graham Coad
Graham Coad Tracey, it's named after the first ever Hayle Lifeboat in 1866s "Isis" was named after the Ancient Egyptian Goddess. Or more accurately, named after a section of the river Thames, which was probably called thus after the Goddess as Maurice points out later

Ken, Stephen,There is much more to the works than just the gardens being replanted.

Cornwall Council were holding out for a decent sum, apparently.

What complicates it all a bit is that Isis Gardens is owned by Cornwall Council, the bits immediately under the viaduct are owned by Network Rail and the walkway between ASDA and Penpol Terrace. across the head of the dock belongs to the Harbour Company.
Stephen Cornish
Stephen Cornish Three companies owning different sections of the area ... What could possibly go wrong? wink emoticon
Stephen Cornish
Stephen Cornish But who was the ancient Egyptian goddess named after?

I'm only joshing smile emoticon
Stephen Cornish
Stephen Cornish What it needs is ... BBC Ground Force smile emoticon
Paul Rawsthorne
Paul Rawsthorne Not trying to be funny or anything, but any plaque with the name ISIS gardens is a shoe in for vandalism, it might even go on to win the grand national lol
Paul Rawsthorne
Paul Rawsthorne just remember to spend the 80k wisely but only buy a plaque for a fiver from wyevale, coz its life expectancy should amount to little over 24 hours
Stephen Cornish
Stephen Cornish Any name can become tarnished ... Or significantly more beneficial over time. I.e. minions. Hopefully people see past what is a name meaning different to what current world suggests.
Paul Rawsthorne
Paul Rawsthorne Whilst i wholeheartedly agree with you now, i once was a degenerate and feel the timing is wrong, surely there could be something else fitting, which wouldnt attract the same attention
Stephen Cornish
Stephen Cornish Might be best to put it in lowercase and maybe the word garden in larger font.
Paul Rawsthorne
Paul Rawsthorne my opinion would be a totally different name, maybe the name of the captain of the lifeboat, then the lifeboats name could be mentioned in extremely small print
Stephen Cornish
Stephen Cornish We'll see what happens. Maybe they'll be a garden committee.
Paul Rawsthorne
Paul Rawsthorne But if we had a garden committee they would probably call it daesh to be more PC hahahahahaha
Tracey Harrison
Tracey Harrison Thankyou Grayhem smile emoticon
Nick Farrar
Nick Farrar Surely changing the name of Isis gardens, because of the so called Islamic State is another victory for terrorism, it was Isis Gardens long before Islamic State were sucking on their mothers teats, and always will be
Paul Rawsthorne
Paul Rawsthorne aha never knew that, i thought somebody had concocted a new name, in that case i agree, but still wouldnt oversize any naming plaque.
Nick Farrar
Nick Farrar No the use of the word Isis is quite popular in Hayle, there is even a company working out of Foundry Farm called the Isis Well Being Centre, if there ever was a better opportunity for comedy gold I don't know of one.
Paul Rawsthorne
Paul Rawsthorne indeed lol, their plaque really ought to get sent to VIZ
Stephen Cornish
Stephen Cornish I have always thought of ISIS as software I used at uni for creating circuit board diagrams smile emoticon
Maurice Trathen
Maurice Trathen I think that you will find out that our first lifeboat was given too Hayle by the town of Oxford and was names after the river Isis in Oxford.
Nick Farrar
Nick Farrar The lifeboat was paid for by Oxford University, and she carried out 10 rescues over her service saving 50 lives. The memorial gardens were named after the lifeboat in 1995
Maurice Trathen
Derek Rule
Derek Rule I agree with Nick Farrar. An honorable name for an honorable vessel. Unlike previous posters I don't think we should be frightenened away from the name, nor should the gardens be renamed because of the possibility of somebody making an erroneous connection to that load of Middle Eastern butchers. Why not use some of the generous donation to improve signage to point out the origin of the name and the history of the lifeboat and the courageous crews of all of them?
Andrew Thompson
Andrew Thompson Besides ISIS change their name every other week - call them DAISH (they hate it !).
