Full details on the proposed transformation of Hayle Harbour into a "vibrant new coastal quarter" can now be found online.

Plans were submitted last month that include a new hotel and community centre, improved water sport and harbour facilities, cinema and new open-market and affordable homes as part of the next phase of development at the site.

Now Corinthian Homes, which is leading the North Quay development, has launched an online exhibition explaining the plans in detail and how they fit into the wider regeneration of the area.

The virtual exhibition and consultation, which is available to view at www.north-quay.co.uk/phase2, includes a feedback form giving the opportunity for the public to comment on the proposals.

Simon Wright, CEO of Corinthian Homes Group, said: “Under normal circumstances we would be hosting an exhibition of the plans locally but clearly that is not possible at present. So we wanted to get as much detail as possible online to give people the opportunity to study the proposals in depth and share their views, comments and suggestions.

“The virtual exhibition is designed to highlight and explain the proposals for the eight character areas which make up the site, set in the context of our overarching aim to deliver a project which greatly enhances the local area and its economy, brings benefits to the local community, protects and promotes its heritage and puts Hayle Harbour on the map as a destination.

“We are excited and very proud of the proposals and we hope as many people as possible will take the time to view the exhibition and give us their feedback.”

A masterplan is already in place for the redevelopment of Hayle Harbour and work started earlier this year on phase one, which will feature 140 homes, new shops, restaurants and open areas next to the water.

The detailed plans for the next phase of development submitted to Cornwall Council add much of the leisure and community elements that will complete North Quay.

At the heart of the proposals is a commitment to quality of design, support for local marine industries and water users, promoting a busy and successful working harbour and creating a bustling and lively waterside quarter which is open to the community and visitors year-round.

The proposals include:

• 377 new homes (including 93 affordable homes).

• New hotel.

• Multifunction community hall on the beachfront.

• Cinema and art gallery at the heart of the harbour at East Quay, linked by a new pedestrian footbridge.

• Water sports centre.

• Package of waterside and harbour improvements including:

- New quayside toilets and showers.

- Improved facilities for local fishermen.

- Wharf extension and dry berth facility.

- New workshops.

- Slipway improvements for local water sports clubs.

- Additional moorings.

The project would transform Hayle Harbour

North Quay is set amongst the Hayle Estuary and within the boundaries of the Hayle Conservation Area and UNESCO Mining World Heritage Site for Cornwall and West Devon.

Public access to the beach will be maintained and there will also be new car parking facilities at North Quay, a variety of pedestrian-friendly streets, and seating areas incorporated into key locations along the wharf.

Visitors can read about the plans and leave their feedback via a virtual exhibition at www.north-quay.co.uk/phase2
