A number of students at Penwith College have been asked to stay at home after a learner tested positive for COVID-19.

Cornwall Live on Monday received reports from a parent describing how there had been a positive test at the Penzance campus.

A spokesman from Penwith College has now confirmed the positive test and that some students have been asked to self-isolate.

A spokesman said: “On Monday (October 6), a further education student at Penwith College received confirmation of a positive COVID-19 test.

“As required by Department for Education guidance, the college worked with Public Health England and immediately contacted all learners and staff who had contact with that student, advising them to self-isolate for 14 days from the last day of contact (Monday, September 28). Parents of those affected by this measure have also been contacted. Students will be taught online during this period.

“No other students or staff need to self-isolate at this time unless they have been told to. The safety of our staff and students remains our priority and we continue to follow Government and Public Health England advice.”
