Crashes and overturned car cause A30 chaos

Two crashes have caused travel chaos on the A30 in Cornwall and Devon.

One involved an overturned car that blocked the stretch at St Erth for several hours, sparking long delays.

Devon and Cornwall had reports that one casualty was trapped and confirmed that two people are injured.

"Police were called at 12.10pm to the A30, St Erth, following reports of a single-vehicle collision.

"A car was reportedly in collision with a bank and had rolled, coming to rest on its roof.

"Two people are reported to have sustained injuries; the details are unknown at this time.

"One man is believed to be trapped, however it is unclear if this is still the case.

"Ambulance and recovery are at the scene".

Devon and Cornwall Police

Inrix Traffic and Travel was reporting long delays in all approaches to the St Erth roundabout, but the incident has now cleared.

"Traffic returned to normal, earlier overturned vehicle on A30 in both directions from St Erth roundabout (Lelant) to Loggans Moor roundabout (Hayle).

"The road was closed for some time closed following an overturned vehicle.

"All lanes were reopened around 13:55pm".

Inrix Traffic and Travel

Elsewhere a multi-vehicle collision blocked the A30 at Tedburn St Mary, causing tailbacks heading towards Exeter.

Drivers stuck in the queues said people were out of their vehicles and even walking their dogs on the hard shoulder.

Devon and Cornwall Police say one person was reported to be trapped but is now being checked over by paramedics.

The road has since cleared, however drivers were warned to expect long. residual delays in the area.
