Christmas Lights

Angarrack Christmas Lights Switch On - Saturday 6th December 2008

After all the hard work in designing, creating, upgrading, building, configuring and funding the lights the switch on day finally arrived and the weather was kind - lovely clear skies - though that did make it rather chilly.

Many thanks to all in the village who helped make it all possible - including those who put up with being disrupted as the team worked so hard to setup all the lights and of course everyone from the hardworking Lights Committee.

The weather during the last few weeks was a challenge for the teams putting the lights up, as was the ever increasing number of lights and the complexity of them.

While everyone knew that the incredible Eleven Pipers Piping light, new this year, was going to be a special challenge it's not clear if everyone knew just how much of a challenge!

The Eleven Pipers Piping is the most complicated - and largest - light ever attempted with the longest and most complex animation and needed a special scaffolding frame. Unfortunately, when the scaffolding was put up it wasn't large enough which wasn't realised until the moment came to put the light up - and needed an emergency last minute fix, but ate into the time available to setup and test the light - and despite incredible efforts by all involved meant it wasn't quite ready for the grand switch on ceremony. However, the work goes on and everyone is confident it should be fully working in the next few days.

The Switch On ceremony was magnificent with the excellent Police Pipe Band braving the chilly weather with a magnificent display of kilts and piped a most suitable welcome for the new lights as well as arranging an honour guard specially for the arrival of Father Christmas himself.

Victoria Leigh and the crew from Atlantic FM were also there, helping everyone to get into the Christmas Spirit! Victoria's fantastic sequinned dress was the star of the show and Victoria was brave above and beyond the call of duty in climbing the heady heights to start the Pipers Light and the Grand Switch On.

The team from Atlantic FM have also produced a video which they have put on YouTube
