St Erth roundabout A30 section to be restricted to 30mph limit for eight months
Posted: August 07, 2017
|Drivers are facing a fresh A30 nightmare with new roadworks that will see a 30mph speed limit in place for eight months.
Notice has been given by Highways England for the order, which will come into effect on Monday, August 14, on a stretch of the A30 to allow for junction improvements works near St Erth to be carried out safely.
The works are expected to take place over eight months on both carriageways from the St Erth roundabout.
There will also be a 10mph speed limit while convoy work is taking place overnight and traffic will be prohibited from proceeding eastbound on the A30 turning right into Station Approach.
The bus stop areas situated just west of the roundabout will also be closed and replaced with a temporary bus stop during the duration of the improvement works.
News of the improvements was met with a mixed response when posted on the Anything Hayle Facebook page with several posters sharing their disbelief that such work would be scheduled to get under way in the middle of the summer holidays.
Rick Cornwall wrote: "The lack-of-planning department at it again. Starting a major job midsummer is madness of the first order. Not that you'd manage 30mph along there much of the time anyway, never mind 40."
Paula Morris added: "I find it bizarre that it would take eight months to complete. Most of the time there's no workmen to be seen on the roads. They seem to commence three jobs in different locations."
Natalie Lewis said: "The limit on that stretch is currently 40, so not much slower. But I can't believe they're starting this in August."
Cornwall councillor for Hayle Graham Coad said that it'll be worth it in the long run.
He said: "This looks like the works to create the traffic light controlled junction to the new Transport Hub/Park and Ride at St Erth Station, to get it all up and running before Easter 2018.
