Cornwall to get first H&M (if Hayle shopping park goes ahead)Cornwall could have its first H&M store if a new £35 million shopping park in Hayle goes ahead.
Other big name retailers such as Debenhams, River Island and TK Maxx have also said they would open branches at the new site, which is planned to be based next to the existing West Cornwall Shopping Park.
The scheme has attracted overwhelming support so far, with 95 per cent (537 people) of those surveyed registering support for the plans to bring Debenhams and other retailers to Hayle.
More than 400 people attended public exhibitions at Angarrack and Hale over the weekend showing plans for the new flagship Debenhams store and the shopping park as a whole, with more responding to the consultation by post and online.
Bill Oakley, chairman of Cranford Developments, who is promoting the scheme, said: “We have had a fantastic response and are truly grateful to the residents of Hayle for the support they have shown.
“They are telling us they want to see Debenhams and other retailers come to Hayle. They want to see more shopping choice in the town. They want to see the investment that will create around 450 retail jobs for local people.
“They also recognise that this development can be the catalyst to upgrade the A30 roundabout at Loggans Moor and help improve the traffic flow through that junction.”
Improvements are also planned for the A30, as well as an enhanced County Wildlife Site.
Before the plans are submitted to Cornwall Council, Cranford is consulting local residents. More than 4,000 leaflets have been delivered to homes in the area and residents can also give their feedback online at www.hayleshoppingpark.co.uk.
If approved the company hopes to start work in summer next year, with the retail stores set to open in autumn 2015.
