One person has died after an outbreak of coronavirus at a care home in Cornwall.

It has been confirmed that 11 people tested positive at Pengover House in Liskeard, and one person who had serious underlying health conditions has passed away.

Two other people are receiving oxygen but are doing well, and the eight others are not currently showing any symptoms.

Cornwall Care, who runs the home, says anyone with symptoms is tested for the virus but they are currently unable to access repeated proactive testing.

An investigation is being carried out to try and work out how Covid-19 got into the home.

“We have strict infection control measures in place at Pengover House but sadly a coronavirus outbreak has occurred there.

"In accordance with public health guidelines, we test residents and staff when anyone in the home displays symptoms but are currently unable to access repeated proactive testing. Hopefully this will become available to all care homes soon.

“Our staff are fully prepared and trained for coronavirus outbreaks and their response at Pengover has been exemplary. We don’t yet know how the virus got into the home but a thorough investigation to try and find out is underway.”
