A number of children have been told to stay home after a pupil tested positive for COVID-19 at a west Cornwall primary school.

Parents at Penpol School, Hayle, were sent an email on Saturday (October 17) afternoon confirming the news.

It stated that a "small number" of children were now being told to stay at home after coming in close contact with the pupil who tested positive.

The email reads: "We have been made aware of a member of our school communitiy who have tested positive for COVID-19.

"We know that you may find this concerning but we are continuing to monitor the situation and are working closely with Public Health England.

"This letter is to inform you of the current situation and provide advice on how to support your child.

"Please be reassured that for most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

"The small number of children who have potentially been in close contact with the individual who has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have received a letter informing them that their child must stay at home for a specific period.

"We are taking every step possible in school and these individuals are asked to isolate in line with government guidance as a precautionary measure."

You can read our blog with full details of school cases here.
