After severe flash floods left parts of Hayle under water, the community has pulled together to save its Christmas post!

After severe flash floods left parts of Hayle under water, the community pulled together to save its Christmas post.

The Copperhouse Post Office was among dozens of businesses badly damaged by last week's torrential rain.

Torrents streamed into shops and properties along the main street, forcing police to declare a major incident.

Now local workers have managed to secure a mobile post van for Monday, thanks to community spirit and generosity.

The bid to help the post office began when manager, Sarah Ellis, posted a video of the water coming up against the front door.

She was contacted by Mike, who runs a mobile post office van in the Westcountry, who offered his help despite being on holiday!

The local pub, The Cornubia Inn, stepped in as well and now the mobile service is operating out of its car park on Monday.

The staff are also hoping to keep that running on the Friday after Christmas too!

"We welcome Mike to our wonderful, proud town with open arms. I'm sure we'll keep him topped up with tea and coffee and well... maybe a sticky bun or two! Lol!

"Mike has commitments outside of Monday as you can all fully understand, he supplies a service to remote villages around the South West and of course it's a time to be with family and friends. So please, use this wonderful service on Monday guys!

"Get cash out/put cash in.Pay your bills, post your parcels and letters if you still have more to go and remember you still have a chance to get parcels/cards in time for Christmas with Special Delivery guaranteed, plus other services, so don't be afraid to ask!

"Staff will be on hand to help assist!"
