Whole year group sent home after positive COVID-19 case at Trevithick Learning Academy in Camborne

Coronavirus headlines on October 21

A whole year group at one of Cornwall's primary schools has been sent home after a case of COVID-19 was confirmed.

A reception class pupil at Trevithick Learning Academy in Camborne has tested positive for coronavirus. Now the school is asking all children in reception to self-isolate for 14 days.

A letter signed by headteacher Will Johnson states that their isolation period will start on October 21 and end on Wednesday, November 4.

They will be allowed in school from Thursday, November 5.

The letter reads: “The school has been informed that a child in a Reception class here at Trevithick has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Following the advice from Public Health England and the DFE we have been asked to ensure that all children in Reception begin a period of 14 days of isolation. This begins today, Wednesday, October 21, and ends on Wednesday, November 4. This means they can return to school on Thursday, November 5.

“We understand that receiving this news is worrying however it is very important that we follow closely the advice from Public Health. I also appreciate that the timing of this isolation, so near to the holiday period, is a shame, but again I must stress the need for compliance.

Staff and dozens of pupils are now self isolating at this Falmouth primary school as well. And five members of staff are staying home after a positive test at this secondary in Truro.

"We are here for support, advice and any questions you might have. We are lucky to be currently living in one of the lowest areas of COVID cases in the UK and hopefully this will be just an isolated case so we can get back into the swing of things very soon!”
