Hayle swimming pool to open this weekend

HAYLE'S outdoor swimming pool is set to re-open this weekend following a facelift during the spring months.

The pool, which is run by Hayle Town Council, has been drained, power-washed and repainted in time for the summer season, while the men's changing facilities have also been refurbished.

Surrounding areas of the pool are also being cared for by the council's gardening staff with the help of volunteers.

Town Clerk Eleanor Giggal said: "Hayle Town Council, which operates the pool, is again greatly indebted to the Friends of the Pool who, although small in number have worked tirelessly on the decoration of the buildings and picnic tables adding further to the fresh look of the pool and its environs.

"The Council is also indebted to Marks and Spencers and Western Power for the grants received through their community energy funds and, of course, to everyone who voted to support improvements to the pool."

Plans to install solar covers and a heating exchange mechanism which are being fitted to improve the water temperature have been delayed but it is hoped they will be put in during the season at times of minimal interruption - depending on cost.

While a manager is yet to be appointed for the pool, Ms Giggal will be stepping into the role until it is filled to ensure a full opening on Saturday.

To mark the re-opening for the season, pool users will also have the chance to use the pool for free for one day only, as per tradition.
