DOWN YOUR WAY - HAYLE

Column for May 12 2016

HAYLE NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN:

Hayle's Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group has opened a consultation on the first draft of the Neighbourhood Plan's policies. The survey can be found by visiting the Neighbourhood Plan web site at np.hayle.net. Copies of the plan are available there. To ask questions or make suggestions drop in to the open day at Hayle Day Care Centre on Saturday, May 14 from 12pm to 4pm.

HAYLE IN BLOOM:

Why not walk the walk with Hayle in Bloom?  Their event for children last month was a great success, and they hope that the grown-ups will be as enthused.  On Thursday May 12 there will be a guided walk along King George V Memorial Walk in Hayle.  Meet at 10.30am at the greenhouse.  HiB will show and tell plants on the walk, advise on garden tasks for May, and do their best to answer gardening conundrums.  A donation is welcome, and so are doggy friends on a lead.  Please come and join us to learn a little more about this lovely Hayle asset.  Any queries, ask Olivia at the greenhouse or phone 01736 756567.

HAYLE FILM CLUB:

Bridge of Spies. Saturday May 14 at 7.30pm.

In 1957, defender James Donovan (Tom Hanks) persuades an American judge to sentence captured Russian spy Rudolf Abel (Mark Rylance) to life rather than death. Three years later, when the Soviets capture American spy-plane pilot Francis Powers (Austin Stowell), the Russian spy becomes a valuable asset to be traded, and Donovan is tasked with negotiating the trade. This is far more than your average spy film: a script with a core of idealism and the dry humour of the Coen Brothers contrasts the good faith built up between Donovan and Abel and the bad faith of their backers, building to the final swap on a bridge in Berlin.

As ever, at the Passmore Edwards Institute, house lights down at 7.30pm and home-baked refreshments after. Tickets for each, at £5/£4 for members, reserve on 01736 752319, or book online at www.haylefilmclub.org.uk
