Conpor Moseley memorial ride sets off

Scores of friends, family and supporters took to the road for a memorial ride in memory of a young man who died in an accident on board a boat in a Cornish harbour.

More than 100 motorbikes and cars travelled around west Cornwall in honour of Conor Moseley, 20, an apprentice who had always wanted to be a fisherman, like his dad Steve, and was killed in Newlyn Harbour.

Devon and Cornwall Police are leading an investigation involving the Health and Safety Executive and the Maritime and Coastguard Agency into the death of the former Mounts Bay Academy and Cornwall College student from Penzance on November 15. All of the emergency services attended the tragic incident which has devastated the tight-knit community, with tributes pouring in from all corners afterwards.

The ride/drive set off from the Station House pub car park at Marazion at about lunchtime and passed through Penzance to Land's End, then along the A30 to Hayle, having decided for safety reasons that the high winds made the originally intended route along the north coast via St Ives too risky.

A poignant stop was made in Newlyn where flowers were laid in tribute to the young motorbike enthusiast.

The 70 bikers were accompanied by more than 40 cars - including vintage vehicles - and a vintage double-decker bus carrying members of Conor's family.

Also joining the ride were members of Cornwall-based Red Chiefs motorcycle club who helped control traffic during the ride. A donation bucket was also taken along in aid of Conor's family. Ride organiser Josh Boase said that a "massive" £700 was raised on the day, which Conor's family chose to be split between the RNLI and Heamoor Christmas lights.

Josh, 19 and from Crowlas, said: "The ride went perfect and extremely smoothly. It couldn't have gone any better, apart from the weather, which is why we used the plan B route for safety.

"The atmosphere was great. Everyone was enjoying themselves from what I could see and what everybody was saying, which is exactly what I wanted to happen. I didn't want anyone to feel sad or to be upset about the reasoning behind the event. It was a day to enjoy and to remember Conor, in the same way everyone saw and remembers Conor as he always had a smile on his face and we were always laughing and joking, which is why he was one of my best and closest friends.

"We left the Station House car park to go to Newlyn and lay flowers and I said thank you to everyone in a little speech, then to Land's End and then followed the main A30 back to Hayle Rugby Club in the end, as the turnout was larger than expected and the Hayle Rugby Club kindly said we could use the venue for parking and welcomed us in for drinks."

Josh, a swimming pool engineer who knew Conor since secondary school, added that they had grown closer since, bonding over a mutual love for motorbikes and cars.

He said: "We were always friends through school. We weren't as close then as we were before he passed but we were always friends. I always remember in lessons talking about boats and our dads' boats and our passion for any kind of engineering and engines such as steam engines absolutely anything that involved engineering.

"Then we started all riding 50ccs then we all got 125ccs then we learnt to drive and then I got my big bike licence. We had a group of us that used to love motorbikes and cars and we all shared that same passion.

"He has always been one of my best mates and closest friends since the 50cc days when we were in our last year of school and then going on to start work.

"Because he was one of my closest and best friends and such a gentle man and such a good person, but not only that one of the nicest guys you would ever meet and the most generous and honest guys and helpful guys you could come across, and everything that I'm trying to do for him I'm sure he would of done for me."

Follow The Son: "On Sunday afternoon we met up with fellow Motorcyclists and car enthusiasts to join in a memorial ride for our friend Conor Moseley. A turnout of nearly 70 bikes and 40+ cars and a bus made it a very special day for everyone and showed how much he was loved and held in high regard. We continue to pray for God's love, blessing, mercy and compassion for his family and friends."

Trish Edwards: "Today was one of the proudest days. My son organised a run to remember Conor Moseley. Who is sadly no longer with us. The photo of the motorbike shows Conor's helmet attached to the back of my son's motorbike. The boys often would go out together. This is Josh Boase tribute to one of his best mates."

"So many more have helped make this happen, also a massive thank you to everyone who turned up I haven't tagged or mentioned everyone because everyone has played a massive part and the list is endless."

A huge turnout is expected when Conor's funeral takes place on Friday (December 20) at Newlyn.

Conor's mother, Tracy Pascoe Moseley, posted: "We have arranged a date for our precious sons funeral. It will be Friday 20th December at 2pm at St Peter's Church in Newlyn, followed by 3pm at Treswithian Crematorium at Camborne. After this at the [Sportsmans Arms pub] in Heamoor."
