Captain Michael Lane of Hayle, we salute you! Today he received France's highest award, the Légion d’Honneur for his service in World War II. At the age of just 19 he was a midshipman on board HMS Ramillies during the Normandy landings supporting the airborne troops. The ship was on station for 10 days, surviving torpedo and e-boat attacks, and firing over 1,000 15” shells – more than any other ship. (Hear from him on BBC Radio Cornwall Drive tonight.) Please share this post to celebrate his bravery.
He's on the right with Andrew Munson, the Consulate of France for Penzance at the offices of Hayle Town Council.
