Two men arrested after reports of 'suspicious vehicle'

Two men have been arrested after reports of a 'suspicious vehicle' near the A30 in west Cornwall.

Officers were called to the Hayle area amid concerns about two men behind a property looking for scrap metal.

They reportedly then fled the scene when confronted by a member of the public.

Police carried out searches in the area and the van was stopped in High Lanes.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and items have been seized from the vehicle.

"Police were called at 10.50am today [5th July] following reports of a suspicious vehicle containing two men near a property in Lelant Downs in Hayle.

"The men appeared to be looking for scrap metal and made off from the scene when challenged by a member of the public.

"Police commenced an area search for the vehicle.

"The van was stopped by police in the High Lanes area of Hayle.

"Two men have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

"Police have seized the van which contained a large amount of scrap metal and suspected stolen items from a reported burglary."

Devon and Cornwall Police

A 21-year-old man from Dorset and a 24-year-old man from Southampton are in custody at Camborne.

It was reported that the A30 was partially blocked around St Erth because of the 'police incident' and there was slow traffic in the area.
