A man has been arrested after an alleged stabbing near St Austell.

Police were called to Par on Wednesday night after reports from the public.

It was claimed someone had fled the scene and an air and land search was launched.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police have arrested a man following an alleged stabbing in the Par area of St Austell in Cornwall last night.

"Police we called at around 6.40pm after reports of a stabbing and the suspect fleeing the area in a stolen Nissan Micra. A woman and a man were taken to Treliske hospital with minor knife wounds; they have both since been released from hospital.

"Police along with HMS Culdrose undertook searches of the area and the suspect was located at a caravan in the Hayle area at around 10.20am this morning and arrested on suspicion of wounding

"A 41-year-old man is currently in police custody and is awaiting questioning."
